CONTRACT READINESS: THE HIDDEN GAP PUTTING MINING CONTRACTORS AT RISK
“When pursuing tenders, businesses frequently draft policies or answer tender questions with procedures that sound good on paper, but do not reflect how the business actually operates day-to-day.”
Mining services contractors are risking larger contracts despite having the technical capability to deliver them, as mining companies place greater scrutiny on whether suppliers can prove their safety, quality and compliance systems work in practice.
QSM Group says the gap between operational capability and contract readiness is being exposed as contractors pursue larger work, with clients demanding evidence across management systems, competency, subcontractor governance and contractual compliance.
QSM founder and director Gary Patrick says technically capable contractors are finding that reputation, experienced personnel and quality equipment are no longer enough to satisfy procurement requirements of major clients.
